Graham Potter says ambitious Albion are “a bit closer” to hitting their top-ten Premier League goal.

But he insist they cannot take top-tier life for granted as they plan to keep progressing.

The Seagulls are at Wolves today (3pm) knowing a point will give them their best tally for a season since winning promotion.

They are pursuing a long-term goal of become a top-ten club on a sustained basis.

Potter, pictured, believes steps have been made this term with four games still to go.

The Albion head coach said: “I’d like to think we’re a bit closer.

“There’s a difference between being a top-ten team and a top-ten club, in terms of there have been teams that have been ninth or tenth and then finished in the bottom three the next year.

“It’s about sustaining top-ten finishes and then you can become a top-ten club.

“It’s about how you align everything together, how you use all your resources, how you position yourself in the transfer market. That’s with sales, who you buy, all that stuff.

“At the same time, you have to keep in mind that the Premier League is so competitive that if things go wrong, you have a bad season, a few injuries etc, etc, then you can find yourself relegated.

“As much as top ten sounds good and it is, the reality is that six or seven teams that you think are clear of relegation and the rest are scrapping from the start. That’s the truth.

“You look at the table this year, with Everton down there, nobody would have predicted that at the start.

“Not that we would, but if you disrespect the Premier League and think too far ahead too much, it’s a problem.

“But at the same time you have to be ambitious. We want to be that.

“I think we’ve made progress. But there’s a lot more to do.”
