Albion prospect Reda Khadra is under observation after being troubled by a calf injury.
His current boss Tony Mowbray revealed Khadra has returned to Brighton for a scan.
But he played down any fears of a serious problem.
Khadra, 20, has been a big hit at Blackburn Rovers this season.
But he is unlikely to play a part in their must-win derby at Preston tonight as Rovers bid to keep their Championship play-off hopes flickering.
Khadra suffered the injury in a match at Reading prior to the last international break.
Mowbray said: “He's at Brighton getting scanned.
"There's very little chance he will be coming to Preston with us.
“There's no setback, it's the same injury. He just feels it on the grass when he's training.”
Kadra watched Albion under-23s play Chelsea at the Amex this evening.
