Albion are hoping for a big finish to the season from Danny Welbeck – starting against his old club.

The former Arsenal striker could add to the three goals he has scored versus the Gunners if he is given a chance at the Emirates today (3pm).

Welbeck started the 0-0 draw at home to Norwich last week but only had one real sniff of goal as his side drew a wasteful blank.

However, Graham Potter reports he has looked sharp in training after a stop-start campaign so far.

Albion are looking to improve a goal return of just one in their last seven outings.

Asked about the striker, Potter told The Argus: “I thought again he contributed to our attacking game last week.

“He has probably had the best couple of weeks of his training this season.

“Looking at him in training, he is in good form, looks sharp, looks energetic and enthusiastic so we are really pleased and looking forward to seeing him play.”

Welbeck scored in his last game against Arsenal, for Watford at the Emirates in the 2019-20 Restart fixtures.

He netted against the Gunners twice for Manchester United before moving south but has not yet featured against them for the Seagulls.

The former England frontman, 31, is under contract until the summer, although Potter expressed a desire to extend that.

He added: “Now is not the time to speak about that from our perspective or his perspective.

“Now is time to focus on the game and hopefully we can get him enjoying his football and scoring goals and then we can think about the future.”
