Neal Maupay has been told he will bounce back from an off-target day at the Amex.

The striker missed a penalty and three other chances in a 0-0 draw with Norwich.

But he was clapped off by Albion fans when he was substituted.

Graham Potter thanked supporters for their backing of the eight-goal forward.

Albion’s head coach said: “He’s a human being. He will be low tonight, of course. That’s normal, natural, but he has had these experiences before.

“I think it was Leeds he missed a couple of chances and then the following game he scored.

“That’s the life of a striker and he has to deal with that.

“He has the support of us, the support of his team, the support of his supporters, which is really important, so he will bounce back.”

Albion have scored just once in seven games.

Maupay was not the only player who had chances to change that against the Canaries.

But the clearest openings were his.

Potter said: “Like the rest of us, he will be disappointed with recent results. He will want those to improve.

“He will want his own situation to be better.

“But the logical part of his brain will know, ‘The only way I can fix that is by hard work, doing my very best’, which I think he does.

“That was reflected in the response he got from the supporters because they recognise the good things he does and the things he has done for us in the past.

“But, unfortunately at the highest level, you have to suffer.

“We’re suffering - and he’s suffering and he has to see it as a way to improve and grow as a person.”
