Graham Potter said Albion missed an opportunity of a famous result at Old Trafford - but was proud of their efforts.
The Seagulls lost 2-0 to a Manchester United side who they caused plenty of problems, especially in the first half.
They could still have grabbed a late point, even after Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring and Lewis Dunk was sent off.
Asked whether Albion felt like it was a missed opportunity, head coach Potter said: “We do, that’s why we are disappointed.
“I think the boys felt that.
“I’m proud of the players, I’m proud of the performance and I’m proud of what they tried to do.
“But, at the same time, I’m frustrated because I thought it was an opportunity to get something.”
Potter said Albion were the better team in the first half.
But he added: "We didn’t start the second half well enough and were punished by a world-class finish from a world class player."
