Albion are likely to give Danny Welbeck a chance to shine in the FA Cup.

The striker looks set to feature as the Seagulls take on West Brom in the third round today (3pm).

Welbeck has had limited opportunity since completing his recovery from a successful hamstring operation.

Graham Potter sees giving him time at the Hawthorns as a greater priority than protecting him for a tough series of Premier League matches which follow.

Albion’s head coach told The Argus: “We would see it as more of a chance for him to get some minutes, to be honest, so read into that what you will.”

Welbeck played the second half of the recent win over Brentford.

He then made a late entry at Chelsea in midweek and scored the goal which secured a 1-1 draw.

The sides meet again a week on Tuesday, midway between league games for the Seagulls at home to Crystal Palace and away to Leicester.

Welbeck did not get on last Sunday as Albion won at Everton.

Potter said: “He has been on the bench for us so we have had to use him in that way because he is just gaining time after his injury.

“But he has had some time on the pitch and he is looking to probably play more than he has.

“That will be important for us going forward and for him.”

Jason Steele is expected to start in goal although Potter said a debut for Kjell Scherpen is also an option.

Adam Webster is likely to be rested after reporting some fatigue after his stop-start season so far.
