Jake Robinson should be back in action ahead of schedule after receiving good news from a follow-up X-ray.
The Albion wideman was braced for a six-week absence amid fears he had fractured a metatarsal in the recent defeat to Mansfield.
The injury has now been diagnosed as a bruised bone after a second X-ray and Robinson is already back in training.
Albion's early FA Cup exit means that, after playing Huddersfield on Saturday, they do not have another fixture until visiting Northampton on Tuesday, January 29, and Robinson could be available for that.
Physio Malcolm Stuart said: "It's still very tender but he is working this week.
"He trained today (Wednesday), doing some straight line running, and achieved that quite easily.
"Hopefully he will be back in full training on Friday or on Monday at the latest."
Guy Butters, recovering from a calf injury, could also be back in full training on Friday though he is not expected to feature against Huddersfield.
Joel Lynch remains sidelined by a hamstring problem.
Albion have sent trial goalkeeper Jonas Jensen back home to Denmark without getting a chance to see him play in a match though they are keeping an eye on his progress.
