Albion fans enjoyed some slick footwork by Shane Duffy as he marked his 50th international cap in style.

The centre-back skippered the Republic of Ireland to a 0-0 draw at home to Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in a World Cup qualifier.

Seagulls supporters enjoyed a moment in which showed poise on the ball to wrongfoot the Portugal legend.

Duffy was measured in his reaction to the result and saw it as another sign of the Republic progress under the management of Stephen Kelly.

 

 

He said “We are not ecstatic. There was no music in the dressing room.”

Ireland set about their task in determined mood as Duffy made a tough early challenge on Ronaldo.

They had an early half-chance but Callum Robinson could not react quickly enough after Duffy had headed Jamie McGrath’s delivery towards him.

Duffy and Ronaldo could meet again next month whn Albion visit Manchester United in their last game before Christmas.
