STEVEN Gerrard could be in the dugout when Albion take on Aston Villa after the international break.
The Villans have been looking for a new manager since they sacked Dean Smith after their defeat to Southampton in the previous Premier League game week.
One man that was linked with the job at Villa Park was Albion's own Graham Potter, however, the Englishman is happy at the Amex and a move to the league rivals looked unlikely.
Gerrard, who is currently in charge of Scottish giants Rangers, is now expected to be announced as the new manager of Aston Villa in the next day or so according to Aston Villa correspondent Ashley Preece.
He said: "Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa all but done, as he finalises his backroom staff.
"I'm expecting an announcement within the next 24 to 48 hours if not sooner."
Gerrard's potential first game in charge of Villa, should the deal go through, will be against Graham Potter's Albion side.
Villa are currently 16th in the Premier League with ten points, seven points and nine places behind the Seagulls.
The former Liverpool captain has built up his managerial reputation in Scotland having helped to deliver the club their first Scottish Premier League title in ten years when they won the title last season.
