ALBION star Robert Sanchez has said that he was inspired by Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has become the club’s undisputed first-choice since coming into the side last season and is now a regular in the Spain national squad.
Sanchez has admitted that the Manchester United stopped was a big inspiration to him.
He said: “The Premier League goalkeeper who has inspired me the most is David De Gea. I think most people know him, and obviously, I am an international teammate with him.
“He was always like the superhero of the team, he would make unbelievable saves. Because what I always liked was my two big idols were Iker Casillias and him.
“And you can see the amount of saves he has made. Top class saves that no-one else could really do so that is probably why.”
The goalkeeper who spent time on-loan at Rochdale before becoming a regular at the Amex Stadium has been in fine from this season, only allowing nine goals in nine Premier League games, while keeping four clean sheets.
This record is the fourth best in the league, with Sanchez only behind Manchester City’s Ederson, Liverpool’s Allison and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy who are all equal on five.
However, Sanchez is above Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, Tottenham and France captain Hugo Lloris who have three.
