Albion's Tony Bloom second most popular Premier League owner

Tony Bloom has ranked second in the list of popular Premier League owners, only behind Leicester City owners the Srivaddhanaprabha family.

The impact Bloom has had on Albion is clear to see for many, as the club are playing in the new Amex Stadium rather than at the Withdean and are on their way to becoming an established top-flight side.

Bloom proved to be more popular than Chelsea's big-spending owner Roman Abramovich, the third most popular and club rivals Crystal Palace owners Steve Parish, Joshua Harris, and David Blitzer, who were fourth.

The rankings have been released by Freebets.com, a sports betting service, which has analysed every article and every tweet sent about each major shareholder of each Premier League club over the last two years to look at which owners have the highest and lowest profile and who is the most popular among fans on social media website Twitter.

Bloom is a longtime Brighton fan, and his family has had a long association with the club. His uncle Ray is a director and his grandfather, Harry, was vice-chairman during the 1970s.

He took over the Albion in 2009 after succeeding Dick Knight by securing a 75 per cent shareholding in the club. Bloom then invested £93 million in the development of the club's new ground.

Since earning promotion to the Premier League, Albion have gone from strength to strength and are looking up rather than over their shoulders at the relegation battle.
