Versatile Andi Zeqiri has been told his future will lie at centre-forward.

But Aaron Connolly is expected to lead the attack when Albion return to Premier League action.

Seagulls boss Graham Potter was delighted to see Zeqiri open his account for the club in the Carabao Cup win over Cardiff.

He enjoyed a rare chance in his favoured position as Connolly was protected with the league game against Everton in mind.

Zeqiri has played in wide roles, including wing-back, when needed.

Asked whether he sees the Switzerland under-21s star eventually playing in his preferred No.9 role, Potter told The Argus: “I think he’ll end up that way, definitely.

“But he has got the flexibility to play in a few positions.

“Because we have had a few players in that position he has had to fill in at times, which is probably to the detriment of him.

“But everyone at the club loves him. He’s a great kid.

“Always smiling, always trying to help the team, so everyone is really happy for him.”

Potter says hard-working Zeqiri, who won the ball back in the build-up to his goal, is pushing for action of some sort against the Toffees.

He added: “He is such a fantastic character and he is an amazing team player.

“Whatever you ask him to do, he’ll do it and he’ll do it 120%.

“I thought his performance was fantastic.

“He worked so hard, closed them down and chased lost causes.

“Then he gets his reward with his goal, which is a fantastic finish, so really happy for him.”

Neal Maupay and Danny Welbeck have only outside chances of playing any part against Everton.

Albion remain interested in Benfica forward Darwin Nunez although his club have earned a financial boost valued at an initial £31 million by reaching the group stages of the Champions League
