THOUSANDS of fans made the almost 300-mile round trip to Burnley to watch Albion win their first Premier League game of the season.

Fans draped in white and blue were there to watch Brighton come from behind and get their season off to a winning start on Saturday.

It was the first time Albion fans were able to enjoy the team playing away from home in the league for more than a year.

Harvey Thompson was among those who made the trip to Turf Moor and he said the atmosphere was great.

“We went up on Friday, stayed in Manchester and came back on Sunday,” he said. “There was a lot of banter between the two fans. You can tell everyone was buzzing to be back. It added to the game – both sides’ fans were up for it and it was a good experience.”

Colin Beales barely missed a game for more than 20 years as a travelling Albion fan before the pandemic brought things to a standstill.

He said: “It was awesome to be back. The result really helped but the day out was great. It was just great to be back with friends, family and fans having a good time together. It was pretty loud compared to previous seasons at Burnley. A good time had by all I think.”

Gareth Brann and his son Ethan said: “We really enjoyed it and it is good to be back – really nice to be back and back into the usual routine. Going out before, mixing with all the fans before the game – we really enjoyed it.”

Following the 2-1 win, Brighton will play Watford at The Amex on Saturday, August 21.
