Albion are looking forward to seeing more magic from Leandro Trossard after he made an exciting return to club action.
But the quest for more firepower will continue after a 2-0 friendly defeat by Getafe.
Trossard and Alexis Mac Allister shared 90 minutes in the final fixture of pre-season.
Mac Allister, back from the Olympics, is available for the Premier League opener at Burnley and played the first 45 minutes.
But Trossard did most to push his case on his first outing since representing Belgium at Euro 2020.
He was denied by one of several fine saves from Getafe goalkeeper David Soria and was key to an improved second-half display by the Seagulls.
Head coach Graham Potter said: “He has done well.
“He has had some issues with quarantine and self-isolation so he has taken a bit longer.
“But I thought you saw 45 minutes of really good action from Leo. He was unlucky not to score, was at the heart of a lot of attacking stuff so he was lively.”
Mac Allister suffered disappointment in Japan with Argentina but has come back in good shape.
Potter said: “Because he played in the Olympics he has had game time so he is in a moment where he is able to play.
“We thought it was good to get him 45 minutes.
“Leo is at a stage where his 45 was about right for him.
“It made sense to pair those two together.”
Percy Tau missed the Getafe game after talks over a move to Al Ahly.
Potter expects development on that by tomorrow.
He said: “There was a personal reason why he was not in the squad.”
Albion retain an interest in Benfica forward Darwin Nunez and will continue to assess all options until the transfer window closes on August 31.

Burnley are also behind schedule as they build for the opening day.
Star striker Chris Wood enjoyed a first 45 minutes since returning from the Olympics in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Cadiz.
But key defender Matt Lowton has been self-isolating and Dale Stephens (ankle) will not be available to face his old club.
Burnley have an in-house match this week.
