Benfica striker Darwin Nunez remains “of interest” to Albion this evening.
But there is no suggestion of significant progress in bringing the Uruguay international to the Amex.
A report in Portugal of a failed bid of about £25 million has not been confirmed closer to home.
A well-placed source said Nunez, who Albion tried to sign from Almeria last summer, is “of interest, but nothing going on at this time”.
Nunez had a mixed debut campaign season for Benfica as they failed to regain their league crown.
But, at 22, he has undoubted potential.
The Lisbon club are understood to need to sell a player to ease financial pressure.
They face a key two-leg Champions League qualifier with Spartak Moscow this month.
BRIGHTON STILL WAITING ON TARIQ LAMPTEY
Graham Potter has made it clear he has no plans to sign a centre-back, despite the £50 million sale of Ben White to Arsenal.
But neither does he expect Albion to rush into the market as a result of the record deal with the Gunners.
