Brighton have signed Zambian international midfielder Enock Mwepu from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old who is nicknamed 'The Computer' joined Salzburg in July 2018 from fellow Austrian side FC Liefering and made 119 appearances during his time at the club scoring 18 goals and getting 20 assists.

He has also won 12 caps for Zambia since making his debut in September 2017 and has scored two goals.

Some Albion fans might remember Mwepu playing for Salzburg in their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League in October 2019 at Anfield where he set up Hee-chan Hwang for their equaliser.

Mwepu could face a couple of his former Salzburg teammates this season in Takumi Minamino (Liverpool) and his international colleague Patson Daka, who joined Leicester earlier this month.

Mwepu becomes Albion head coach Graham Potter's first signing ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

Potter said: "We're delighted to be able to welcome Enock to the club and are looking forward to working with him.

"He has a great deal of experience for somebody of his age, including Champions League and international football.

"He's primarily a central midfielder, although he is capable of playing in numerous positions, is open-minded, adaptable and very keen to learn and develop.

"He will add competition to our existing options in that area of the squad going into the new season."

Mwepu posted a picture of himself landing at Heathrow airport with the accompanying message: "In England for a new challenge"
