Graham Potter expects to see Yves Bissouma back with Albion for pre-season.
But he added he can give no assurances ahead of a busy summer.
The midfielder was outstanding again as Albion ended their season with a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.
Bissouma’s good friend and former Lille team-mate Nicolas Pepe scored both goals.
But the Albion man was a driving force right to the end and appeared to have cramp at full-time.
He is expected to be a target for other clubs this summer, including the Gunners.
Asked whether he could give assurances on Bissouma’s future, Potter said: “Not really. He is contracted with us.
“As far as I know he will report for pre-season like everybody else.
“But it’s football. In the summer we have to make some good decisions and improve the football club. That’s what we have to do.”
Albion ended the season still in 16th place.
Burnley lost to Sheffield United so were unable to overhaul them on a final afternoon which saw Chelsea and Liverpool pip Leicester City to Champions League football.
Arsenal’s win was not enough to secure them a European berth.
