Graham Potter said it is easy to criticise Lewis Dunk over his red card at Wolves.
The skipper has been in the spotlight after pulling back Fabio Silva and leaving his side down to ten men.
Albion led 1-0 through Dunk’s header at the time but eventually lost 2-1.
Head coach Potter believes Dunk might have acted differently in hindsight – but that was a very easy criticism to make.
Potter said: “Instinct kicks in and you have got to make a split (second) decision.
“In the cold light of day I’m sure if you ask him he would say, ‘Okay maybe I let him go and worst case scenario we take a goal and we are still 1-1, but 11 v 11’.
JERMAINE JENAS SLAMS 'RIDICULOUS' DECISION BY LEWIS DUNK
“It sounds easy to say now but out there on the pitch it happens in such an instant and you back the players to make a decision.
“In the end it is what it is, it’s football and it can happen.”
