Albion want to help Shane Duffy make the right decision for next season.

The centre-back returned to his parent club after his loan at Celtic was cut short.

He did some light training at the Seagulls’ training complex in Lancing today.

Duffy’s dream move to the club he supports did not go as hoped and Albion plan to help him bounce back, wherever that might be.

The Irish international said his thanks and farewells to those north of the border via social media.

Head coach Graham Potter said: “He has had a tough time.

“Sometimes in football things don’t go as you want them to go.

“Shane has had some tough challenges off the pitch.

"Losing his father just before he went to Celtic was a huge challenge for him, as you can imagine. He has had to deal with a lot.

“He, more than anybody, would have liked it to have worked out better than it did at Celtic but that’s football.

“From our perspective, he is always welcome here.

“He has been a fantastic servant to this club, well liked in the dressing room, well-respected.

“It is important now for us to help him, to get him back on his feet, so to speak, and to put him in an environment where he feels secure and enjoying his football.

“That’s what we will try to do for the next couple of weeks."

Several survivors from Chris Hughton’s time in charge could leave the club for good or on loan this summer.

Duffy still has two years to go on his Albion contract.

Potter said: “He is like quite a few guys. We have to sit down and plan and see where everybody is at.

“Some players feel like they need to go and play and some players are happy being here.

“We have to make sure we make the right calls for the player and the club.

“Now is not the time to really think about that.”
