Albion hope to mark ten years at the Amex in style – with a prestigious friendly.

The Seagulls are in talks with teams from overseas who could visit on the first weekend of August.

That would be subject to Premier League status having been retained, which now looks highly likely.

There could also Covid restrictions to take into account.

Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: “We hope there will be a pre-season game.

“A lot of it depends on travel restrictions as to whether we can bring in one or two teams we have been talking to about playing in that friendly.

“Assuming the restrictions stay lifted, assuming the travel restrictions don’t prevent us from bringing in an overseas-based team, it would certainly be our plan, over the weekend f what would have been Pride, to host a home friendly.”

Albion officially opened the stadium in 2011 with a visit from Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham.

They staged a sell-out friendly versus Atletico Madrid ahead of their first season in the Premier League.

Sevilla, Lazio, Valencia, Nantes and Champions League winners Chelsea are also among teams who have played at the Amex in pre-season.
