Former Albion and Crawley utility man Romain Vincelot has this afternoon announced on social media that he will retire from football at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old spent one year with the Seagulls in the 2011/12 season where he made 20 appearances in all competitions.

He scored one goal during his time at the club which came at the Amex, in their 2-1 win over Coventry.

It proved to be the winner that afternoon, as he headed in Liam Bridcutt's free kick in the 37th minute.

He then spent a season at Crawley in 2018/19 where he played 15 matches in all competitions as a centre back.

Vincelot has been playing in League Two this season for, Stevenage, who are managed by former Seagulls striker Alex Revell.

He will come up against his former side Crawley on Saturday in the penultimate game of his career.

But Vincelot, who had career-saving hip surgery in 2019, said in a statement on his Twitter account this afternoon: “I’ve decided to retire at the end of the season. I feel the time has come to stop pushing my body to its limits.

“I’m happy with my last season here at Stevenage. We have shown great character to come back from the bottom.

“I’m proud of the staff, the manager and my team-mates who kept working hard, kept the will to learn and never gave up. These are values very important to me. I’m delighted to end my last season with this group of people.”
