Albion head coach Graham Potter was glad to see Jose Izquierdo back playing Premier League football again.

The 28-year-old winger replaced Leandro Trossard late on in their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United last night.

That was his first appearance in the top flight for two years when he played 66 minuted in a 1-1 draw at the Amex against Newcastle in April 2019.

It has been a long road to recovery for Izquierdo, with him having been out for a year-and-a-half after having surgery on his knee.

But since returning he had made five appearances for the U23's between October and December.

He had also been an unused substitute in their last six matches, before he was given a brief run out at Bramall Lane.

Izquierdo nearly produced one of his stunning strikes as he picked up on the ball on halfway and drove into space, before unleasing an effort from 30 yards which was well saved by Aaron Ramsdale.

But Potter explained why he brought him on

He said: “I just thought to have Jose on out wide to use his quality.

"Obviously, he has had a terrible time with injuries so it was nice for him to be back out on the pitch.”
