Albion are among a host of clubs and organisations across the country who will switch of their social media accounts next weekend in a show of solidarity against racism.

They join other Premier League clubs, the FA, the EFL, WSL clubs, FA Women's Championship, PFA, LMA, PGMOL, Kick It Out and the FSA to unite in a social media boycott.

It will them all suspend any use of their social media accounts from 3pm on Friday April 30 until 11.59pm on Monday May 3.

The move follows social media boycotts from Swansea, Birmingham and Rangers in recent weeks, with Liverpool skipped Jordan Henderson stating he would be willing to follow Arsenal great Thierry Henry in coming offline altogether in protest against racist behaviour.

The Swans were prompted to take action after Yan Dhanda, Ben Cabango and Jamal Lowe were all targeted, while Marcus Rashford, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling and Tyrone Mings are also on the long list of players to have suffered racist abuse online in recent times.

Albion head coach Graham Potter is glad to see clubs are united in tackling the issue of racism and discrimination.

He said: “I think it is a great step and fantastic that it is a unified one and that everyone is together."

A joint statement from the organisations staging the boycott said: “As a collective, the game recognises the considerable reach and value of social media to our sport.

"The connectivity and access to supporters who are at the heart of football remains vital."

"We are making a point that in this day and age it is not acceptable, but discrimination is there and on the social media platforms.

"We have to do more and take more responsibility because it’s not right and it should not happen and again it is just to show that we are all together in trying to make a difference.”
