Albion are keeping a close eye on their returning defenders as they prepare to cope without Ben White.

The centre-back will miss only his second game of the season as the Seagulls visit Sheffield United tomorrow.

He is serving a suspension after his late dismissal at Chelsea in midweek.

The one-game ban clears him to face Leeds, the club he joined on loan last season, when they visit the Amex next Saturday.

Dan Burn and Adam Webster returned to the starting XI at Stamford Bridge after absences due to injury.

Head coach Graham Potter revealed Albion would keep a close eye on both of them during the relatively quick turnaround between fixtures.

He said: “Everybody came through the game okay.

FLORIN ANDONE CLOSE TO TRAINING RETURN

COULD THIS BE A PREMIER LEAGUE REPEAT FOR ALBION?

“We’re still in the recovery process. There’s still a couple of lads that we need to be careful with.

“Adam Webster and Dan Burn haven’t played for a while, to a certain extent Danny Welbeck, but apart from that we’re fine.”

Albion had managed with three specialist defenders in recent fixtures.

They would be keen for at least one of Burn and Webster to be fit and fresh for the test by the Blades.

Potter said: “We’ve managed with the three we’ve had with Joel (Veltman), Dunky (Lewis Dunk) and Ben.

“But, if you get any injuries or suspensions, you’re down to just the two.

“It’s good to have them back. We have to be careful with them in terms of making sure they have recovered.

“But on and off the pitch they are important for us because of their personalities and their characters.

“They have their attributes on the pitch as well which are useful.”

White’s only previous absence in the Prem campaign was over the Christmas period, when he was on the bench for the home game against Arsenal.

He has also played in cup ties.

Potter said: “He has got that athleticism where he can just play, play, play.

“We have to find a solution. We have got options and we will have to think about that over the next day or two, but we will miss him.”

Pascal Gross and Jakub Moder have played as makeshift wing-backs or wide midfielders in recent fixtures.
