Former Albion left-back Sebastien Pocognoli has hung up his boots.
The Belgian played 21 times for the Seagulls and scored one of their most wildly-celebrated goals in recent years.
His brilliant free-kick on a Friday night at QPR four years ago this month proved to be the winner and nudged the Seagulls close to promotion to the Premier League.
He also delivered the perfect cross from which Anthony Knockaert scored the winner in a 2-1 success at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Pocognoli, 33, has latterly been playing for Tony Bloom’s club Union St-Gilloise.
He had two spells with Standard Liege, a stint at West Brom and earned 13 full caps.
In a statement released this morning, he wrote: “For 17 years, a boyhood dream came true. Today, I feel it is time to stop. It is not easy to close this chapter, but my head and my body are asking for it. My heart is grateful for the beautiful years.
“I wish to thank all the supporters who were so important to me through the years, but also all my teammates and coaches.
“Thanks to my family who was so important and my closest friends. I would also like to thank everyone who has been there over the years, at my different clubs. See you soon.”
