It felt like the story of the season - right down to one late scare.
But Albion took one more step closer to ensuring they can continue to make Premier League progress next term.
Graham Potter’s men drew 0-0 with Everton at the Amex.
They have still never won in the Prem on a Monday and will feel they should have put that right.
But they have now opened a seven-point lead on 18th-placed Fulham.
Driven from midfield by the superb Yves Bissouma and Adam Lallana, Albion made most of the running against a well-organised Everton side.
Neal Maupay, Jakub Moder and Adam Lallana went close and Robin Olsen - who was not tested often enough - tipped over a Lewis Dunk header.
It was one-way traffic for most of the second half.
And, then as in four previous home games which were level in the dying moments, Albion allowed their visitors a late chance.
They didn't get away with it against Palace and Leicester but this joins the Wolves and Fulham games, when they enjoyed late reprieves, thanks to Alex Iwobi firing over.
Albion had previously suffered nothing but misery on Mondays at the Amex this term, losing to Chelsea, Southampton and Crystal Palace and being held by West Brom.
The Baggies kept alive their admittedly outside hopes of staying up as they beat Southampton 3-0 earlier in the evening.
Fulham are in action on Sunday when they visit Arsenal.
