Graham Potter made a big half-time call at Southampton today.
And it helped move Albion three points away from the relegation zone.
The visitors deserved their 2-1 win at St Mary’s.
Dan Burn’s exit, seemingly with a hamstring issue, led to a reshuffle as Andi Zeqiri went on as sub.
Albion scored their winner in the 56th minute and their three signings rich in top-level experience played a huge part.
Leandro Trossard’s emphatic finish came after clever passes by Joel Veltman, Adam Lallana and Danny Welbeck put him in on goal.
Veltman was playing on the left of a back three by then.
Zeqiri was doing an energetic job at left wing-back and Pascal Gross had a similar role on the right.
Unusual assignments for those three, perhaps, especially Gross.
But the formation was that which Albion have favoured for most of this season and they looked far more comfortable for it.
Adam Lallana sat in with Yves Bisouma in midfield while Welbeck, Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard closed down further forward.
OUR LIVE REPORT FROM SOUTHAMPTON
Albion, who had earlier seen Lewis Dunk’s headed opener cancelled out by Che Adams, return east this afternoon three points clear of 18th spot.
They still have an awful lot of work to do to secure Prem status.
But they will be feeling better about life after a second half in which they looked their old selves.
