Fans have been told they were given just a taste of what Moises Caicedo is all about.

The Ecuador international is off to a strong start with Albion after a 90-minute outing for the under-23s.

He showed a range of qualities during a 3-1 defeat to PL2 leaders Manchester City.

Caicedo’s performance, streamed live on YouTube, was scrutinised by his army of fans back home.

Jose Freire Guti, director of EcuaGol TV, told The Argus: “Moises’s level is a lot higher than that of the under-23s but he can still give a lot more.

“He was very clear when passing the ball, physically great, was noticed both in defence and in attack in addition to his ability as a playmaker.

“In Ecuador he was more influential, he played better, but it is a matter of time for him to show it there.

“He can give much more and, with the top-level preparation, he will.”

Caicedo’s full match came less than a month after his arrival from Independiente Del Valle was confirmed.

That appears to put him ahead of a timescale mapped out by Graham Potter.

Albion’s head coach did not see the under-23s’ match as the senior squad prepared to face West Brom.

He told The Argus: “We were training and travelling at the time but reports have been good.

“It was important for him to get some time on the pitch.

“He has trained well but he is adapting to the club and everything else.

“Good for him that he has had some time. I think he had a positive performance.”

Shannon Ruth, joint caretaker boss of the under-23s, was delighted by Caicedo and Poland international Michal Karbownik, who played the full game at right-back.

He said: “Their attitude was excellent, they slipped into the group really well.”

Albion under-23s visit Chelsea on Sunday (2pm).
