Graham Potter said he had no problem with Danny Welbeck taking penalty duties.
The former England striker hit the post with Albion’s second spot kick of the West Brom game.
He is not known as a penalty taker but stepped up after Pascal Gross missed the first effort.
There is no record of Albion having missed two penalties in a match.
Comprehensive records for penalty misses only date back to the mid-1990s.
Head coach Potter said: “I think sometimes you have got to back the players on the pitch that feel like they can take the penalty.
“They know one has been missed and Danny has come along with his experience and his quality and felt that he can take it. I have no problem with that.
“We are disappointed when they don’t go in but we have to keep working.”
