Paul Barber has welcomed plans to get fans back into Premier League stadia.

Albion’s chief executive and deputy chairman says latest government guidelines were at the “upper end” of his expectations.

But plenty of work lies ahead before stands are full at the Amex.

Boris Johnson’s latest update has opened the door to fans returning to the Prem for the final round of fixtures.

That does not appear to affect Albion directly given they are away to Arsenal on the last day.

But there appears to be a possibility of unrestricted attendances at the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

Barber told The Argus: “Like everyone else, we were pleased to see a roadmap from government on a safe return to our normal lives, subject, of course, to conditions being met at each stage.

“As part of this, we are encouraged by the prospect of some fans returning to watch Premier League matches before the end of the current season, again subject to conditions being met.

“This news is at the upper end of my expectations and, all being well, will help put us in a position where potentially we can see full stadiums again next season.

“Safety of fans, staff and, of course, our players will remain paramount so, working with colleagues across football, we will carefully assess each stage of the roadmap and plan accordingly.”
