Solly March has been told not to rush his return to action.
The left wing-back has undergone successful surgery on his injured knee.
Early indications are he will miss 12 weeks, taking him to the end of April.
But head coach Graham Potter said he is under no pressure to return to the Premier League frame.
Potter said: “He has had the surgery and it has gone well.
“It’s good for him and it’s positive for his long term that there’s no major problems.
“His recovery will be quite slow, but necessary.
“It’s a blow for Solly and for us because he has been really good, he’s important and we will miss him.
ALBION HOPE WEBSTER CAN FACE VILLA
“That’s football and we have to find a solution.”
Albion have five games after April 30, the last of them on May 23 at Arsenal, so arguably the best season of March’s career to date is not necessarily over yet.
Potter said: “There’s a chance but at this stage I wouldn’t want to put too much on that.
“The most important thing is that he gets his rehab done properly and we don’t put any pressure on him from a rushing him back perspective.
“We need him back properly and then we will see.”
