Jamie Murphy has spoken of the big off-field difference between life as a footballer in Scotland and Brighton.
The former Albion winger has also revealed the part of his game he had to get spot-on to secure playing time under the management of Chris Hughton.
Murphy helped the Seagulls win promotion to the Premier League and is now back in his native Scotland playing for Hibs, where is also looking to move into coaching.
He has had stints at Motherwell, Sheffield United and Rangers.
The 31-year-old told hibernianfc.co.uk: “ We’re also obviously consumed by football here and I enjoy that side of it. Football’s an everyday passion.
“Brighton was maybe the only club I’ve been at where you could walk down the street and no-one would stop you.”
WHAT THE ABSENCE REALLY MEANS TO FANS
Murphy will take lessons learned from Hughton and his ex-Motherwell boss Mark McGhee, among others, into his coaching career.
He said: “At Sheffield United I was an out-and-out winger and told not to worry about defending.
“At Brighton (under Hughton), it was a case of defending to earn the right to play.”
