Maty Ryan has been told he can aim for big things if Albion do not want him.

The Australia international is expected to miss out again on Sunday as Robert Sanchez starts against Sheffield United.

A suggestion he is free to find a new club next month has been neither confirmed nor denied by a well-placed source.

But it is likely there would be plenty of interest if a goalkeeper with more than three seasons as Prem first choice – and potentially in his prime at 28 – were to be available.

Harry Kewell, the former Liverpool star and Crawley manager, now in charge of Oldham Athletic, said: “I’m a huge fan of his.

“We all know what a wonderful keeper he is and I think he is capable of breaking into a top six team.

“He has got the attitude, he has got the mentality, his ability between the sticks with his hands is excellent and he is great with his feet.”

Sanchez is off to a good start after two away games and has learnt his lessons on loan in the lower divisions.

It remains very early days for him in the Premier League but he now has the chance to make a big impression.

Albion have three more games this month and eight league fixtures between now and the end of the transfer window.

Head coach Graham Potter saif of Sanchez: “He earnt his place on merit in terms of how he has trained every day and worked.

“I think his performance was good (at Fulham)."

Potter will be further quizzed on the goalkeeping situation when he talks to the media this afternoon.

EXCLUSIVE: How Albion spotted, signed and developed Robert Sanchez

There is likely to be unusually high level of interest in the identity of any goalkeepers on what is now a nine-man bench when he reveals his line-up to face the Blades.

Sanchez made his debut at Tottenham on November 1 but was left out of the 18 for the following match.

The 23-year-old is a tall, commanding figure and, perhaps significantly, in a similar mould to Emiliano Martinez, the keeper with whom Albion were strongly linked early this season.
