Glenn Murray could have his season-long loan spell at Championship side Watford cut short in January.
The 37-year-old has not played in any of the Hornets last 11 games, having not made the squad in 10 of those.
In some games Watford boss Vladimir Ivic has even named two substitute goalkeepers, despite Murray being available for selection.
His last game time came off the bench against Wycombe in October, where he played 16 minutes.
Murray himself wants to play, but Ivic when asked about the striker said: "I didn't take him because of tactical reasons.
"Currently I have three or four players in this position who for me are in a better shape."
The Argus understands that Watford are considering all of their options including sending him back to Albion.
