Glenn Murray says Ben White can repay Albion's faith by going on to play for England.

The Seagulls striker on loan to Watford was impressed by the way offers from Leeds were resisted in the summer.

White’s name is again being speculatively linked with Liverpool after Virgil Van Dijk suffered a long-term injury.

Murray has been hugely impressed by youngsters coming through the ranks, notably Steven Alzate.

Asked specifically about White, he said: “There no reason why Ben at his age can’t go on and play for England.

"I think credit has got to be given to the club for saying No to the amounts of money that were being bandied around in the summer from Leeds.

“That takes a lot of faith to turn those offers down because they are lumpy offers for anyone, especially when they haven’t kicked a ball in the Premier League.

“But that shows the belief they have in the player and in what the club is doing in general.

“If we had decided to sell Ben White in the summer that would have paid for the academy right there but we chose not to because we believe he is worth more.”

Murray said he cannot wait to see fans back in stadia.

He told a celebratory 100th episode of BBC Sussex’s Albion Unlimited podcast: “To be perfectly honest, when it first happened and we were playing the games with no fans it was quite nice in certain ways, it had its perks.

“But it’s really starting to grate now and it’s nothing without the fans.”
