Albion want to see Yves Bissouma kick on this season – and get fans out of their seats.
Head coach Graham Potter believes his squad can improve on their first campaign together.
And he says Bissouma, who earned rave reviews late in the campaign, is not yet at his best.
Albion are preparing for their Premier League opener at home to Chelsea on Monday (8.15pm).
For now, Bissouma will be lifting fans from their armchairs at home rather than seats at the Amex as the season kicks off behind closed doors.
Asked specifically about the former Lille man, Potter said: “We hope all our players can take the next step. That’s our job, that what we are trying to improve.
The glory, the tears - and the new challenge. Beram Kayal opens up
“Certainly with Yves, I don’t think he is at his maximum. There’s a lot to come from him.
“He is a player who gets you off your seat, I would say. His best actions are of a really high level.
“We have to help him get better.
“He has been working really hard with the team, working really hard as an individual. He wants to improve.
“He is an important player for us and we are delighted he is taking those steps.”
Bissouma’s fellow midfielder Davy Propper has missed pre-season fixtures, putting his participation against Chelsea in doubt. Christian Walton definitely misses out.
