Graham Potter says there is no “easy solution” in the transfer window as fans hope to see Albion sign a striker.

The Seagulls are known to be on the hunt for a frontman and a left-back or wing-back in the run-up to the new season.

Their quest for a goal-getter is attracting most of the attention but Potter also wants to get more from the men he already has.

Albion’s head coach said: “Transfer windows are part of the noise of the game.

“I think sometimes we forget we have got good players here and the job of the club and the job of myself should always be to try and improve those.

“You talk about strikers, I’d rather talk about improving Neal Maupay and how he can get from ten goals to 20 goals.

“How does Aaron Connolly get from three goals to five goals or ten goals or 15 goals?

“Or Leo Trossard to add more goals, or Alireza (Jahanbakhsh) to get more goals.

“It sounds like an easy solution that there’s just a magic centre-forward out there who is going to fix all our problems. The reality of it is it’s not like that.

“We have to always work with the players.”

Potter said Albion would not be rushed into a deal.

He added: “They have to be the right people to represent the club, they have to be the right player. It never necessarily falls how you like, you just have to be patient.”

Izquierdo is making progress

Potter and deputy chairman Paul Barber were speaking at BBC Sussex fans forum.

Barber said: “Strikers are always hard to come by in any transfer window at any level of football.

“We are always looking to make our squad better where we can.

“What we don’t do is rush in to buying players just because there is a striker available or we think we should add one.

“We try and find the right striker or the right defender or the right midfield player, whatever the position happens to be to fit whatever Graham needs at a particular time.

“At the moment, where we can strengthen the squad, we will - and we have.

“Adam Lallana has joined us, Joel Veltman has joined us and Ben White has come back from loan.

“At the moment, nothing specific. There’s a long way to go in the transfer window.

“Let’s see how we go on.”
