Albion are likely to face competition in any move for Almeria striker Darwin Nunez.

A source close to the 21-year-old Uruguayan says the Seagulls are interested in a deal.

He said: “It’s definitely possible but we will see.

“There is interest, that’s real. But there are various clubs and we are looking at what would be the best footballing option for him.

“The price is down to Almeria but the player is worth around about 20 million euros (£18 million).”

Nunez has just completed a productive season in the second-tier LaLiga SmartBank with 16 goals in 28 starts.

Southampton, Roma and Napoli are also believed to be keen on him.

Albion are not believed to have made a bid on any players with whom they have been linked.

Almeria’s season ended this week when they lost in the promotion play-offs.

They have several links with Albion.

Potentially of most relevance is that with current coach Bruno, who played for Almeria before joining Valencia and later the Seagulls.

Ex-Albion strikers Leonardo Ulloa, Tomer Hemed and David Rodriguez all played for Almeria before coming to England.
