Ezequiel Schelotto has thanked Albion for three years and “some beautiful moments” after his departure was confirmed.

Head coach Graham Potter said today the right-back had played his last game for the club.

Schelotto had been open to staying but was unable to agree a new deal.

He is expected to return to Italy and Serie A.

Schelotto today thanked Albion and several individuals, including his fellow right-back Bruno, who he described as “the emblem of the club”.

He posted on social media: “I thank God for giving me the possibility of a career that I have, football is complicated, the full picture is never told, however I am grateful to play this beautiful game. There are defining moments when you need to make decisions that allow you to continue on your path.

“I thought more about my career and without disrespecting, I told the club that the best thing was to continue on my way. I wanted to stay in the club but the sports and economic contract was not the best for me and my family.

“Today I have to say goodbye to Brighton and Hove Albion after three intense years. I’ve had battles to overcome, and joyous moments that will forever be in my heart. I will especially miss the friends I have made, but I am sure we will meet again.

“The Seagulls opened the doors for me to play in the best league in the world.

“I am truly grateful to chairman Tony Bloom. I want to thank the incredible fans who gave me their support every day, and to the medical staff who helped me in my recovery at a difficult moment in my career. Thanks Josh,Tom and Jordan.

“To my friends Jorge and Dani who always prepared the most delicious food for me, to the spectacular Gibbo (player liaison Steve Gibbon), to Bruno, the emblem of the club, (you treated me like a brother).

“To my team-mates, we have shared some beautiful moments over the last three years, I will miss you all very much.

“I want to also thank my family for supporting me in the highs and lows.

“I think I said goodbye to everyone. Brighton, thank you for everything, good luck for the future!
