Former Albion midfielder Dale Jasper has been described as “a top guy and a real talent”.

Jasper, who also played for Chelsea, Crewe and Crawley, has died at the age of 56.

He played for the Seagulls between 1986 and 1988 under the management of Alan Mullery and later Barry Lloyd.

He was part of the squad who won promotion from the third tier in his second season, although he missed the run-in.

Former colleague John Keeley, who kept goal for that side, signed at about the same time.

He told The Argus: “I’m gutted. Dale was really well liked by everyone.

“He had some real talent and was a top, top lad. I'm gobsmacked by the news.”

Jasper made 60 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring eight goals.

Before that, he played ten times for Chelsea, having been considered one of their best prospects as a youth-teamer by star player Alan Hudson.
