Graham Potter is willing to ask Glenn Murray whether he wants to play in the FA Cup.
Albion’s head coach could consult with his senior striker ahead of tomorrow’s third round tie against Sheffield Wednesday at the Amex (3.01pm).
Murray has been linked with interest from Nottingham Forest.
Potter would love him to stay at the Amex but is aware Murray may be tempted by an improved chance of game time elsewhere.
He has not started a league game since early September and was not part of the matchday 18 versus Chelsea on New Year’s Day.
The Argus understands Albion had not received any enquiries about Murray going into the January transfer window.
But it would be a surprise if ambitious Championship outfits were not eyeing his situation with interest.
Speculation over his future will increase if he is not on the teamsheet to face the Owls.
Potter said: “These are all things we can think about and speak about privately.
“Whatever we do, we need to make sure the players we have got are ready to play the game and committed to the game and happy to play.
“But Glenn has been perfect and there is absolutely no problem.
“It’s just the January speculation and fun we all have chatting about the ifs and buts.
“At the same time we have to make sure we are ready for the game.
“He is a fantastic character. He has been great with us and helped us to get to where we are now.
“He has helped me with the group, with the players, trained his best all the time.
“He has been involved with pretty much every squad except the game against Chelsea, where we had Arron Connolly and Ali (Jahanbakhsh) on the bench from an attacking perspective.
“Just that balance was the reason he missed out.”
There is no suggestion Albion are planning to sign a striker this month but that could change should Murray move on.
Potter said: “I have a lot of time and respect for Glenn so I want to handle it as well as I can for him.
“I understand he has had a fantastic career, he has been great for this club and he might want to think about gettinng some game time.”
We have to try to reeoct that and understand that.
I have abolsuel;y no problem with glenn at all.
He has been great and if he is with us and, if not, I can udnetand why as well.
