Graham Potter wants to see a battle for playing time down the Albion right after bringing back Ezequiel Schelotto.

The Argentinian went on as wing-back against Everton after recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in March during a Serie A match at Torino when on loan with Chievo.

He fell out favour with previous boss Chris Hughton, who last picked him for the season-ending 4-0 defeat at Liverpool in May, 2018.

Schelotto went on versus Everton for Martin Montoya, who was substituted for the second successive game. It was his first outing at the Amex for18 months.

Potter told The Argus: “We have had to hold him back.

“He has been looking at me like I am the worst person in the world for not getting him in the squad a bit sooner.

“He brings a personality, he is a charismatic footballer.

“He brings an energy down that side so there is good competition there.”

Schelotto enjoyed his most eye-catching game under Hughton against Chelsea on the one occasion the ex-boss went with wing-backs.

Potter added: “In terms of the profile of the players down that side, he fits.

“He can get up and down well. He has good pace and good personality to threaten the back line and, at the same time, try to do his defensive work and his build-up work.

“We are delighted to have two good guys competing.”
