Was this the moment which most vividly illustrated what new-look Albion are all about?

The freeze-frame image comes from the MyAlbion TV section at BrightonandHoveAlbion.com and captures the launch of the attack which brought the winning goal against Everton.

Maty Ryan had just held a cross from Gylfi Sigurdsson with the game deep into added time and the teams level at 2-2.

Albion had battled back to draw level and were on course for a decent point when not at their best.

In that situation, how often have we seen the following scenario – from previous Albion sides and plenty of other teams?

The goalkeeper holds on to the ball, looks around him, waits and then slowly advances to the edge of the box.

He waves his outfield players to push forward.

They do so in a solid line of four and a solid line of five and the ball is then sent way over their heads into the opposition half. Job done.

Not with this team. Not this time.

Ryan was immediately looking for the counter raid and was willing to bowl the ball out quickly to Steven Alzate, who was equally happy to receive it with Djibril Sidibe closing in fast.

Everyone seemed alive to the possibilities as soon as Ryan caught the ball almost under his own crossbar.

Admittedly, Dale Stephens appears on the replay to very briefly be telling Ryan to calm it all down. But only for a second or two before himself joining in the attack and playing a key pass.

Albion’s players have been working on that sort of football since pre-season and, when the big moment came, what followed was second nature to them.

That hard work and that approach paid off handsomely yesterday and was a reward for attitude as well as actions.
