Aaron Mooy has been hailed as “a great lad” as he prepares to serve a painful one-match ban.

The midfielder will sit out tomorrow’s game against Everton.

Mooy produced his best performance yet for the Seagulls last time at the Amex when Tottenham were beaten.

But two yellow cards at Aston Villa last week rule him out this time.

Head coach Graham Potter said: “I spoke to Aaron and I think he is really upset about it, of course.

“He didn’t want to do it, we know that. These things happen.

“He is a great lad, he feels bad for it. He has apologised to me and the team and I don’t think needs to do that because it is just part of football.

“It just shows you the character and the person that he is that he feels that responsibility and he doesn’t want to harm the team.

“That is part of the ups and downs of football.

“He was magnificent against Tottenham and part of a 3-0 win and everybody is so delighted and then, a match later, everybody can have a different feeling.

“We need to be together in those moments and support him and carry on.”

Mooy and Florin Andone have both been sent off before half-time this season in matches Albion went on to lose.

Potter added: “It doesn’t help if you are playing two games out of nine in the Premier League with ten men for 60 minutes.

“There is no getting away from that.”
