Amber Anning took silver in the 400 metres at the European under-20s Championships in Sweden.
The 18-year-old from Brighton and Hove finished second behind No.1 ranked Polina Miller.
The Russian took control of the race from lane three around the final bend to win gold in 51.72 secs, a European under-23s best mark.
Anning, in lane five, clipped her personal best from 52.54 secs down to 52.18 secs.
She moves to America next month on a four-year scholarship at Louisiana State University.
