Albion are in ongoing talks to sign Racing Genk's Belgian international left-winger Leandro Trossard.
A well-placed source has confirmed to The Argus the club's pursuit of Trossard.
According to HLN Sport in Belgium, an initial bid was turned down earlier this week but a further offer is expected.
Genk reportedly want around £18 million pounds for Trossard, which would break the club record paid by the Seagulls for Iran winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar last summer.
Trossard scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 47 appearances for the Belgian champions last season.
Arsenal, Spurs, Southampton, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco have all been previously linked with the 24-year-old.
Albion goalkeeper Mathew Ryan played for Genk.
The Seagulls' Colombian left-winger Jose Izquierdo, who also played in Belgium for Brugge, has been ruled out of the start of the Premier League season after a second knee operation.
