This is the moment when Albion thought they might knock Manchester City’s quadruple bid off track.

The Seagulls went down 1-0 in today’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, despite a proud display in front of their noisy fans.

They trailed from the fourth minute when Gabriel Jesus stooped to head home Kevin De Bruyne’s super cross.

But it seemed they must level after the break when Anthony Knockaert flighted in a corner from the right.

Shane Duffy got above goalkeeper Ederson to head the ball down and it looked like Glenn Murray must tap it over the line – only for Aymeric Laporte to stick out a foot and toe-end the ball inches over the bar.

Jose Izquierdo later had a shot held by Ederson.

But that goalmouth melee when Laporte rescued wobbling City was ultimately the moment they will look back on as they think of what might have been.
