Albion have received a Premier League boost – and Manchester City a setback – on the eve of FA Cup semi-final day.
The Seagulls remain 15th in the table after rivals Southampton lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool, who again leapfrog City at the top.
Saints led early on through Shane Long but Naby Keita brought Liverpool level.
Liverpool went ahead on 80 minutes from a Southampton corner.
They cleared, countered at pace and Mo Salah scored.
Jordan Henderson added the third.
City, who end their season at the Amex, are now two points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.
Meanwhile a last-gasp Viktor Gyokeres goal gave Albion under-23s a 2-2 draw against Swansea at the Amex. Bojan Radulovic had earlier given the Seagulls a 1-0 lead.
