How we thought Albion rated in their Carabao Cup tie....
DAVID BUTTON 7: Made some decent saves and looked good with his hands, which will reassure Albion fans they have a worthy back-up to Ryan. But served up a dodgy moment or two with his feet.
WILL COLLAR 7 (below): Given a big test on the right of defence and generally came through very well, though the finale was tough as Redmond probed. Will be better for the experience.
BEN BARCLAY 7: Great experience for the under-23s centre-back and dealt with it well, including a goal-saving clearance early on, until Saints made life tougher with their attack-minded substitutions.
BERNARDO 7: Back after a tough debut at full-back at Watford and looked better in the middle of defence. Has presence and speed and is also adept with the ball at his feet.
MARKUS SUTTNER 6: Not an eye-catching return to the side but scooped a dangerous low drive to safety over his own crossbar in the first half.
PASCAL GROSS 6: A new role playing as deep-lying playmaker behind the rest of the midfield. His best period was in the second quarter of the game when he got on the ball and made his side tick.
YVES BISSOUMA 8: The prospect of what he could eventually contribute continues to really excite. Two driving runs at the Southampton defence caught the eye in an energetic first half and his precise cross almost set up an opening goal for Gyokeres in the second.
BERAM KAYAL 7: A quietly efficient midfield performance. Had plenty of work to do as Southampton enjoyed a lot of possession.
ALIREZA JAHANBAKHSH 6 (below): Something of an underwhelming first start at the Amex, although he went quite close with a first-half drive from around the edge of the box.
JURGEN LOCADIA 6: Offered an example of how he can take a high ball in the second half and that was one of his better moments. Saints nullified his greatest threat by not allowing spaces in behind for him to attack.
VIKTOR GYOKERES 7: The wideman had a lively first half and almost capped the second with a headed goal before fading in the final stages. Clearly has a bit about him.
Subs
DAVY PROPPER: Sent on for the final quarter and spread the play quite well on occasions.
AARON CONNOLLY: The Irish striker was sent on very late
