Tom Brennan has pulled off one of the best results of his young speedway career.
But his racing mentor wishes he would shout about himself a bit more.
The 16-year-old Eastbourne Eagles rider came second in the final of the British Under-19 Championship at Ipswich tonight.
He dropped his only point in five races to Dan Bewley, who went unbeaten on his way to the title.
Brennan got closer than anyone to Bewley and was unbeaten in his other rides.
Martin Dugard, the Forman IT Eagles chairman who has been Brennan’s guiding hand for several years, was delighted with the result.
He said: “I’m over the moon for him. We have worked towards this from a long way back.
“I have to say we thought he would be there or thereabouts with the form he has been in.
“The trouble with Tom is he not in your face about what he has done.
“He doesn’t really get noticed because he doesn’t shout about himself or promote himself like other riders do.
“Maybe he has to improve on that side of it.”
Eagles reserves Jason Edwards and Charlie Brooks scored four and three points respectively.
